Hello, my name is Oriel and I am 14 years old and next year I will be doing my GCSEs
All my friends at school have been telling me that I am dyspraxic. I always thought I had something slightly wrong with me but I had no idea what. So one day I decided to look up an online test. This is how I came across this website so I did the test and I got 33/35 I don't know whether i should go for a test or not because they are quite expensive and also I have already wasted £400 on a dyslexic test and it turns out I don't have it. All bar 2 of the 35 apply to me and all of my friends agree.
Please help me I don't know what to do

I've just been searching the net for devices to help my 12 year old son in the classroom with reading setwork books etc. He was diagnosed last year, after having struggled since preprimary. Trust me, being in a private school offers no extra help (probally less than a state school)
We have spent soooo many dollars on extra lessons and assesments. But unfortunatly neither has helped much. Schools dont implement the suggestions given, and lets face it, teachers in mainstream are so busy with their 25 or so students they barely have time to plan anything else, let alone help kids with learning difficulties. My son is such a sweet boy and always tries his very best, but having gone into year 7 this week, it has been just too overwhelming for him. I am afraid that his already damaged self esteem will break even more. My heart just aches for him.
Yes we need schools that can understand the needs of our children. Urgently.

I have looked at your web page and wonder what stage you are at with starting a school for dyslexia, my daughter has just started high school yesterday and we have already had tears of frustration on her return home. She is feeling so overwhelmed and my heart is breaking for her.

I have an 11 year old with dyslexia. He is such a beautiful boy but his self confidence has taken such a beating that he hated school and was bullied quite badly. His school pushed for him to attend a special school which we have enrolled him in but I feel he won't like it as socially he is age appropriate . To have a school specifically for his problem and to be with other children the same as him would bring him back to the happy go lucky boy he once was.

Hi, My husband's school experience would of been far more positive if there was an understanding about dyslexia. We have just had our girls assessed and they have severe dyslexia in verbal and visual. Our son has indicators but is yet to be assessed. We would be very interested in helping and assisting our children with strategies and life skills.
We were advised to attend a teaching hospital and access a speech therapist. Living on the mid North Coast isolates us from many therapists. If anyone has suggestions we would love to hear..

We live in the UK and have an 12 year old son who has dyslexia. I have read all the above blogs and its so heartbreaking to read about all the children who are being denied an education that works for them in Australia. We were considering moving over but thinking twice now. Our son goes to a specialist school in England and the whole day is structured to help ie no prep or homework as the last thing that children want to do after working so hard all day, is doing more work. They have to put so much effort in to get through even with the extra support and resources. Dyslexia affects their organisational skills as well as learning therefore boarding and routine really helps. They need extra time for exams, over in the UK they can get 25% extra, they can also have a scribe or a reader for exams to give them a chance as they are so clever and gifted its just more difficult for them to read it or write it down, they are no less capable. Their self esteem and confidence needs to be built up as this is easily knocked and they feel they are not able to fit in. They use computers/notepads etc to do work and have lots of practical classes. Lots of young people from Dyslexic schools in the UK have gone on to college and to do very well and get good grades as the building blocks have been there for them and they have learnt strategies to work things out. Dyslexia is not a disability its a learning difficulty but if this is not recognised then it will become disabling for them as they grow. Australia sounds so far behind and we feel for both parents and children who are frustrated and trying to find solutions. Good luck and keep working hard to get those schools as they are amazing and priceless. The childrens needs are paramount.

Hello everyone.
I have recently completed an Integration / teachers aide course in Victoria.
I completed my assesment on Dyslexic children. The idea that there is no funding is criminal. We need schools that are specificaly designed for these intelligent, gifted children.
I would love to help get schools of the ground in every state.

My son (11) and I moved to Aus 8 months ago from NZ. were we got no or little help with his dyslexia. He was "labelled" with this 2 years ago after years of trying to figure out what was wrong!! Ironic how we thought we would get more help in Aus. A school, just for our most amazing children would be awesome. I have spent a small fortune on trying to find something or some way to help him. And is this one of the most frustrating parts of it all??? I have found a program online, which we started last week, and the diference with this one is you get a money back gaurantee..The guy doing it seems passionate about helping all children, no matter what forms their dyslexia takes, Conor actually enjoys doing this every day (only 15 min max). Posibly because it is on the computor. I dont care, if it helps him. I hope its ok to share this website with everyone...www.easyreadsystem.com it is not as exspensive as some things which is a blessing too. How can we get a school in every city off the ground ?? I would love to help....
