Assessments by Dawn

September 28th, 2009

I am getting a lot of requests for assessments. I myself charge $200 for a complete assessment and report. I also develop an individual learning program for the pupil and produce a disc with any materials that will be needed for the kid, or adults teaching. My materials are very user friendly and anyone can use them whether a qualified teacher or not.

My assessments take at least 2 hours, but i am working out programs and going through school work for some of that time and not merely testing your child. Most kids love doing my assessments and I try to ensure that the kid is confident about him/her self before s/he leaves my house, and that both parents and kids understand exactly why the kid is struggling and how to help.

It is worth doing the tick tests – Go to http://dyslexia-testing.com.au and on the top menu bar, you will see the link to the tick tests. Do these first.

I establish how the child or adult learns and perceives the world and then adjust his/her teaching to suit this individual learning style. For example dyslexics cannot recall the look of a word, so need to be taught phonics. I also screen for Irlen syndrome, Auditory Processing disorder, eye tracking and dominance problems, cross laterality true ADHD etc. and refer kids on to other specialists if needed. I can show you the most cost effective way of teaching your kid and of getting further testing.

I live near Perth WA. People have ben coming long distances to see me but if you are not able to do that i do know that there are SPELD organizations in Australia who test for dyslexia. one in Sydney, www.speldnnsw.org.au one in Queensland, SPELD Queensland inc. and I think one in Melbourne.

Please be careful who you go to for testing because many of the kids I have been teaching and assessing have been labeled instead as ADHD and given drugs instead of proper teaching.

Hi, I have an almost 7 year old whose teacher thought he may be dyslexic when he was in prep. She worked with him alot with his eye tracking as he had alot of trouble copying from the board (he said that the letters kept squishing together and would squint and flex his eyes as if they were straining or tired). He seemed to improve for a little while as she was doing alot of exercises with him and re writing everything for him to copy from paper.
He is almost finished year one now and I think the lack of understanding and lack of help from his teacher is leading to the same problems. As well as having difficulty with reading and writing ( so she says, I thought he was starting to progress. Although I still notice the way his eyes still strain)
I would like to know how to contact you and have him tested, for piece of mind and so that he can hopefully recieve more help where he needs it.
Look forward to hearing from you.

hi i have many students who require a full assessment but parents cannot afford the $650 plus charged by SPELD vic. Can you refer to others in the western suburbs of melbourne who charge similar to yourself and who do as good a job?

    Cheers Melissa

    Hi,
Unfortunately I do not know of others. I seem ot be alone in what i do. I do know of a handful of good tutors but they are all full and pleading with me to not send them any more pupils.
People come interstate to see me. But that is because i do not just assess and label but develop a course for each child and show the parent how to teach them as well as giving them the materials they need on a CD.

I am trying my best to help everyone because i am dyslexic

Hi, I have an 18 month old son that the speech therapist believes has dyspraxia verbal. He does not talk but is babbling since he was about 16 months old. His speech therpist doesn’t explain things well so I can understand. I was hoping to do your tick test but am unable to locate it on the top toolbar.
Isaac understands everything and more you tell him but just doesn’t speak yet. I live in Brisbane and have noticed you do a skype test. Could you please explain what that is?

    Regards
