I have a 12 year old son who struggles in his year 5 grade. I've mentioned to his teacher about Dyslexia testing each year but as he is learning somewhat isn't eligible. I did attend the RCH who carried out a WIPSI testing when he was about 6 years old. These tests did show he was at a much lower level for his age. When he started school we attended Kumon for a year or so with some good results initially but he hated it in the end so we finished up. We moved to the country & so he repeated his year 2 primary. He is now 12 & in year 5. He gets very agitated when I try to help him. I don't know what to do except back off & let him go on his own. He says sometimes very frustratingly I can't remember tomorow what I've learnt today.. I would like to help somehow but feel I have done more harm than good (frustrated & pressure). Primary schools don't seem to say anything about him. He now goes to a tutor 1 hr per week. He doesn't want to do any school work at home and becomes quite angry at me. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions.

i also have an 11 year old boy who has dyslexia and auditry memory. Despite being a bright happy kid.
I am disappointed to say that he is currently attending a well known "private school" in Melbourne who just want to wipe their hands clean and are trying to label him as having "BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS." They refuse to take responsibily of maybe changing their perception of, this other wise delightfull young soul. I to would like to find a senior school for him as he will be entering year 7. I have exhausted my self taking him to professional psycholgist, educational psychologist, and out of school tutors. They have all commented on what a confident happy young lad he is, despite his label is getting by the teachers and senior director at this school. They also refuse to accept references from othe people in the comminity. eg.. soccer coaches, martial arts instructor and other groups he is associated with on how well behaved and good manners he has.I am also sick and tired of schooling system and the government not taking resonsiblity for the growing amount of children with these associated problems.Throwing these wonderful bright young kids like my son in the "too hard basket". If there is anybody out there who knows of a school in Melbourne who wil embrace and nuture such children. It would be a God send.
Please help.
