8 year old with very poor handwriting
February 11th, 2009
I am very concerned about my 8 year old son. He is very bright however has very poor handwriting., which is bringing his marks down. Please help
HI,
You have to know why his handwriting is poor, he could have Motor problems, be dyspraxic or dyslexic or Asperges Syndrome, if you want to help it. There are tick tests for some of these on my site and a check list for others. However if this is the only problem then teach him word processing skills and put him on a computer. Handwriting is not actually needed nowadays except at school. hey do very little of it in Bill Gates Schools.
cheers
dawn

My son who is 7 years, 9 months, has been recently dignosed to have dyslexia by a neurologist/paeditrician, he also has suffered about 3 seizures and has been on different medication which had made us assume that it was the medication that made his handwriting bad and why his grades were failing. How can I help my son, there is a dearth of skilled practitioners in my country Nigeria and I want to get help for him, to get him to his grade reading level.

Just came across this web site and posting while surfing. Dawn’s comment is unbelievable – kids don’t need to learn to write, so teach them word processing??? You have got to be kidding. This is some of the worst advice I have ever seen in my life. It is revealing that Dawn herself appears to have only a marginal grasp of basic English grammar.
Astounding.
