Alex, please help

Hi, my 7 yo Alex has been diagnosed with dyslexia, ADD and possible Auditory Processing Disorder. Despite 2 years of support at school plus Ot nd Speech since the age of 2.5, we are reading at begining kindy level still, showing little improvement and he is becoming increasingly frustrated and depressed. I am in Wollongong NSW and desperatly want to help him but dont know what to do know as what we have been doing is not working. His IQ came3 in as quite low but he did not want to be in the testing room and made no effort. I am looking for a tutor or program along the Orton Gillingham method. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I no one is trained in this method, is it possible to buy this program so i can impliment it at home. I am deperatly trying to find some way to help my boy. God bless, I hope you can help.

hi, Thanks for your email. Now first i should say that Auditory Processing Disorder is part of dyslexia, most dyslexic have this . And just about every dyslexic is diagnosed as having ADD in Australia so do not worry about that, and please do not give him drugs.

Secondly if his self esteem was low when he was tested his IQ would register as low , but i have never met a Dyslexic who was did have a really low IQ. So just treat his as an ordinary child . you are the parent you will know best.

Dyslexics learn differently from other kids and what he needs is teaching in a different way, then he will improve. I explain all about this and show you how to teach a dyslexic in my book Dyslexia – How to Win, and i designed the games etc for parents who need to teach their own kids. I am trying to help with these books.

But let me also say that all dyslexics are gifted and that half of self made millionaires are dyslexic. Please see this page of my site. The single most important thing that dictates his success is understanding that he is dyslexic and what it really means. I talk about this a lot in the book.
Sir Jammie Oliver is still very weak at reading and writing and dictates all his books.

Get back to me with any more questions but remember most of what i know, as a dyslexic and a teacher is in this book. Please read it. It really does work, and you can download it for $20.

good luck
cheers
