Looking for a school focussing on Dyslexia
December 18th, 2008
This came through to us but I wanted to share, just incase anyone else can assist.
Hi, my son has quite severe learning diffulculties in reading, writing and maths. He has been tested for dyslexia and the report shows he is dyslexic.
He is going to high school next year on the Gold Coast. Does anyone know of a school that would be good for him. We have found some schools so far don’t want to take on children with dyslexia and can’t offer any support.
hi,
thanks for your email. sorry, i do not know individual schools there. it has been my experience that you have t educate the teachers yourself. this is why i wrote the books in plain english to make it easy for them to understand.
let us know if you find a god one and we can then pass that information on to others.
thanks
dawn

I did have a post on here…where did it go?? There are some schools on the Gold Coast where the teachers have been trained in an Orton-Gillingham approach through the Institute for Multisensory Language Education…Australia is catching up with other large English speaking countries and schools are willing to seek specialised training.

My daughter is dyslexia / ADHD she is 8 years old Yesterday my Husband and i had meeting with the child protection MP( labour) we focused on lack of resourses for 100000 children in western Australia schools public and private. And we are meeting with the Education Mp labour( oppostion) about this problem and lack of fun ding compared 1 million funding in wa to 9.2 billion funding NSW., for special needs education Also Nsw has recently acknowledge all learning problems which is recognised all over Australia except WA public and private. schools and educations boards and MP Liz Constable education minister. Also found 200 mothers letters writing for help which the MP has today . i am willing to send my daughter to a dyslexia school like the uk who are trained staff .here is my mobile number 0433778083 i have policy report, and studies done Lorraine Hammon at edin curtin, about the problem with special needs programmes none,The media in Sydney needs. to be involved . We as mothers need to help the forgotten children of the education system providing best schooling which these children need in the learning programmes , When you send your special child to any school they are bullied and there self confident is shattered to main stream and labelled My opinion is the advantage to special schools they will be labelled, but they will have support and be safe the students will be treated normal. . Also the children will given a chance in life for the future please help Regards Sandra Simpson
