Enquiry about testing for children

October 14th, 2008

Can you please advise where you can get testing for motor dyspraxia or dyslexia in Sydney? My daughter has been diagnosed with auditory processing disorder and we are commencing some treatment for this – but I think she may also have motor dyspraxia (I used to think when she was younger that she may have dyslexia and have seen a behavioural optometrist and things have improved a lot over the past 12 months. Also she’s a bright girl and at 7 has a reading age of an 11 year old – but her spelling isn’t at the same level. Could there still be a possibility of dyslexia?? I don’t want to label her – but I do want to have a complete understanding of what’s going on with her to make sure we focus on the right things to let her work to her potential. She will be 8 in Feb. As I said earlier – she’s a bright girl – but something is ‘out of synch’ with her. Would appreciate any information you can provide. Hope to hear from you soon. Many thanks …

hi,
there are two tick box tests for her age group on this site. one for dyslexia and one for dyspraxia. do both of these. if she is dyspraxic she may well register as positive on both tests but if she is dyslexic the dyspraxic one will not seem like her at all. it is unusual for a dyslexic to have a reading age of 11 at 7 years old, but it is possible if she has been taught in a way appropriate for dyslexics.

you do now need the actual label you just need to know how to teach her. if she is dyspraxic then you buy the book on dyspraxia which you can download for $8.00 and it tells you how to do this together with the dyslexia How to Win book ,and if she is dyslexic then just get the dyslexic how to win and there are more tests in that anyway.
get back to me with the tick box results if you wish.
cheers
dawn

please forget about selling your books and concentrate on helping those afflicted and those parents and other carers who want something concrete rigtht away to find out if their child is afflicted and if so how to help them . Who knows they and I may even buy your book out of gratefullness.
