Reading and Spelling

Most pupils acquire the skills of reading and writing with comparative ease. The dyslexic child, because of his/her learning difficulties, will struggle to make progress when taught these skills by normal established methods.

Dyslexia Testing: :: About this site

About this site

Dawn, the creator of this web site, says

"While helping dyslexics has always been my greatest passion, I have also devoted much of my time to students with other learning disabilities.

Therefore I have 2 sites, one for dyslexics and the other for people who may not be dyslexic but who still think and learn differently from the norm - learningdifficulties.com.au."

These people are said to have “Specific Learning difficulties”.

Specific Learning difficulties fall into 3 main groups:

  1. Dyslexia type difficulties
  2. Developmental Motor Dyspraxia and Verbal Dyspraxia
  3. The Autistic Spectrum Difficulties

This site contains simple tick box screening tests for all of these.

Developmental Motor Dyspraxia and Verbal Dyspraxia and the Autistic Spectrum difficulties are talked about on the learningdifficulties.com.au site.

Dawn has written a small book on Dyspraxia which can be bought in a downloadable format. There are 3 books available on Dyslexia.

Dawn, who is devoted to helping these people, says,

“It was discovered that I was severely dyslexic when I was 22 years old. Before that I gone through 12 years of schooling and 4 years of art college where I been told, constantly, that I was lazy, messy, careless, lacking in concentration and not paying proper attention to what was being told to me. I was convinced that I was a stupid person who had a tiny bit of artistic talent.

Upon completion of my art degree I immediately undertook a post graduate teaching course in order to help other dyslexics. I have been helping them ever since and my work has culminated in the construction of these web sites and in the completion of my 4 books.

My team and I are now working on teaching programs and school work sheets which will become available as they are completed.”
