Books to help Dyspraxics
There is a great deal of confusion amongst many teachers between dyslexia, dyspraxia and Autism. For a long time these disorders were often diagnosed as dyslexia and, in the past, we have had many Dyspraxic children referred to us by dyslexia associations. These children seemed different and did not respond well to standard dyslexic teaching approaches. At that time we did not know of the term “dyspraxia” but after a bit a research Dawn realized that here was another set of children needing specialized help, so began teaching and studying Dyspraxic children alongside the dyslexic ones.
She discovered quite quickly that if she thought dyslexic pupils, like herself, had a hard time at school then she should rethink the whole concept of “hard time” when it came to understanding any lack of self esteem with Dyspraxic pupils. She also realized that she was mildly Dyspraxic herself.
She wrote this book in plain English, using simple analogies from real life to help parents and teachers understand how best to help these kids.
Please read this if you are dealing with a Dyspraxic pupil in any way. If you are unsure whether your child or pupil is Dyspraxic you will know after reading this booklet.
